Biography
George Georgiopoulos was born in Mouria of Ilia shire in 1955. He studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From 1982, he practiced as a freelancer, while at the same time he worked as a Legal Advisor at the Agricultural Bank of Greece.
In the period 2001-2004 he was President of EPAE Regulations.
Between 2000 and 2003, he was a member of the Legislative Committee of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. He has significant experience in public administration, having served as Director of the Minister of Transport and Communications (1996-1997) and the Minister of Justice (2009-2010).
He was a candidate in 2010 in the elections for the first elected Region, of the Regional Unity of Ilias, and was elected Regional Councilor. He was appointed Deputy Governor of Finance and Social Solidarity during the first two years of operation of the institution and President of the Financial Committee. He was the Rapporteur of the study-proposal of the implementation of the minimum guaranteed income for the Region of Western Greece, which subsequently became a law of the state.
In the Regional elections of 2014, he was elected Deputy Regional Governor of Ilia, a position he held until August 2019. In June 2019, he was elected Mayor of Ancient Olympia.
He is married and the father of one daughter.
