Biography
Dimitris Kafantaris was born in 1967 in a small village, Romanou, in the historical Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros, in Messenia, Peloponnesus
He started his engagement in local government very early, taking his first small “step” at the age of just 27. Ha was the youngest Regional Councilor in Messenia then.
He was Regional Councilor and Deputy Government of Messenia from 1995 to 2010. Mayor of Pylos – Nestoros during 2011-2014 and 2014-2019.
He also served as President of the E-Government and Organization Committee of K.E.D.E. during 2011-2014, as 1st Vice President of K.E.D.E. during 2015-2019 and since 2020 he is the General Secretary of K.E.D.E. (Central Union of Municipalities of Greece).
He participated, representing the Local Government, in the World Council of United Cities and Local Governments UCLG as well as in the European Council of Municipalities and Regions CEMR.
He is a member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Board of Directors of EKDDA (National Center for Public Administration & Local Government) as well as the Central Council of Museums of the Ministry of Culture.
As part of his duties, he participates in numerous working groups, committees, and conferences.
He is married and the father of a daughter and a son.
